The BOD keelboat class design is based on the successful XOD, but with three inches less draught for the shallow approaches of Bembridge Harbour, and no spinnaker. The design was introduced in 1936 by Westmacott and Woodnutts. For many years the boats were owned by the Bembridge Sailing Club, and in the mid-1980’s the fleet was sold to members and has flourished ever since. The dozen-strong Class is managed to a strict one-design rule, including a common hull colour. There is an active programme of racing from May through September, and every day during August. The Class regularly participates in Cowes Classics Week. |
