Sir Robin Knox-Johnston has entered Cowes Classics Week with his famous ketch Suhaili, in which he was the first to sail singlehanded non-stop around the world in the Golden Globe Race in 1968-69.
Having recently refitted this iconic yacht, Sir Robin will no doubt be hoping to take home some silverware at the end of the week! Suhaili is one of many new entries this year, helping to swell numbers as enthusiasm builds for what promises to be a return to the good old days in more ways than one as restrictions are lifted.
Cowes Classics Week, organised by the Royal London Yacht Club, runs from 4th to 9th July, immediately following the Island Sailing Club’s inaugural Windeler Cup. The regatta encompasses an exciting variety of racing for traditional yachts and lively club-based social events throughout the week.
New features for 2021 include Classics Day on Tuesday 6th July, in which up to 60 classic cars and classic power boats will be on display on The Parade and adjacent pontoons, together with some treasures from the Classic Boat Museum, the regatta’s official charity this year.
