Sailors of classic yachts have indicated strongly that they are ready to race after effectively a whole season missed. Entries are still trickling in adding to the 150 already recorded for the week-long series.
The social events programme has now been published on the website with tickets available for online purchase. Due to the uncertainty surrounding the Covid restrictions we have chosen events and venues that have a high probability of being delivered, but feel sure that competitors and visitors will understand if some last minute changes are required. Whatever happens, each event will represent good value!
The Regatta will start off with a reception at the Royal London Yacht Club kindly sponsored by Mary Rose Gin followed by an Italian styled supper.
Monday is the popular Hog Roast at the Cowes Corinthian Yacht club soaking up the evening sun on the deck overlooking the dock.
Classics Day on Tuesday 6th will welcome up to 60 classic Cars and Powerboats joining the fleet of racing yachts. There are already some very interesting cars entered including a Bentley Continental once owned by the infamous Asil Nadir and the first Lotus Europa built for Colin Chapman. A reception at the Royal Yacht Squadron in the early evening is followed by dinner at the Royal London Yacht Club with an alternate for those that prefer to be casual at The Commodores House, the former home of Uffa Fox.
On Wednesday competitors are welcomed to two different venues at the Island Sailing Club, each with a different menu, preceded by a drinks reception generously provided by Kendalls Fine Art Gallery conveniently mid-way between the Royal London and the Island Sailing club.
Sir Robin Knox Johnston has entered his yacht Suhaili for the week’s racing and has kindly agreed that she can be moored on the Trinity Landing for viewing during the week. On Thursday Suhaili will be joined by the latest RNLI Shannon Class Lifeboat and (subject to final arrangements) Gipsy Moth IV. We believe that this is the first time that Gipsy Moth and Suhaili have been moored together!
Following a drinks reception on the Trinity Landing during which visitors may go aboard the Lifeboat we have arranged a buffet style dinner at the Sugar Store in Shepards Marina exclusively for Classics Week competitors.
For the Prize giving on Friday a high tea will be provided at the Royal London Yacht club.
All events are now available for booking on the Cowes Classics Week website with early booking discounts available until midnight 2nd July. There will only be limited availability to book events during the regatta, so I would strongly urge you all to make arrangements earlier rather than later.
We look forward to welcoming you to Cowes for a fantastic week of Solent racing and socialising.
